Am I Eligible for a HEAR Advocate?
YES!
If your child receives special education in Baltimore City, you can get a FREE HEAR Advocate!

STEP 1
Families who contact HEAR are asked to send some preliminary information about their child and his or her IEP. We then review these materials and match the family with one of our trained advocates.

STEP 2
Families will meet with their advocate at least one time before attending an IEP meeting together. This first meeting is a time to discuss any problems with the IEP as well as goals and strategies that will be used in the meeting.

STEP 3
The next step in HEAR's advocacy process is attending the IEP meeting with your advocate. Your advocate will have worked with you to prepare materials and a strategy for the meeting to ensure that all goals and desired changes are made to your student's IEP.
STEP 4
You will meet with your advocate again after the IEP meeting to discuss the meeting and any follow-up actions.

STEP 5
Your advocate will continue to meet with you before each IEP meeting and attend the meetings with you for as long as you need.
Please note that due to the large volume of families requesting advocates, you may be placed on a waitlist but will be matched with an advocate as soon as one becomes available.
Additionally, if there is less than one week until your meeting, an advocate may not be able to attend the meeting although we are willing to speak with you on the phone prior to your meeting.
